Night of the Living Dead (1968) is an instant favourite. It’s liberal both in moral and context:

1. Black protagonist

2. Black ending.

借りぐらしのアリエッティ (Karigurashi no Arrietty) reminds me so much of my childhood. I think it doesn’t only work for me. I believe everybody will feel a similar sentiment.
